Wildlife officers are defending their move to shoot and kill a polar bear in Catalina over the weekend. Officers say that the bear came too close to residents.
The weather was poor so a helicopter could not assist officers to capture the animal alive. Officers then tried to scare the animal back to the water. It was then that the bear began charging toward homes and bystanders.
At that point the decision was made to kill the bear.
