How Many U.S. Presidents Have Been Impeached?
On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House was "moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry" against President Donald Trump.
Before we look at how many U.S. Presidents have been impeached, we need to look at what impeachment actually is...
Impeachment does not remove a person from office. It is a process where a legislative body levels charges against an official.
In U.S. history two us presidents have been impeached. Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998. Neither of those two presidents was convicted by the Senate.
There were also efforts to impeach John Tyler and Richard Nixon. Nixon resigned before proceedings could begin.
