Chrystia Freeland resigns from cabinet
Chrystia Freeland has resigned from the federal cabinet.
The resignation comes just hours before she was to deliver the fall economic statement, citing policy disagreements with Trudeau.
In a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Freeland stated that Trudeau told her on Friday that he no longer wanted her to serve as finance minister. She was offered another position but declined.
She previously served as the tenth deputy prime minister of Canada from 2019 to 2024 and the minister of finance from 2020 until her resignation.
