Ellen Pompeo to depart from Grey's Anatomy

After 19 seasons the star of Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo is leaving the show.

Pompeo, who portrayed Meredith Grey on the medical drama series shared a post on Instagram saying, "I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith Grey and the show for 19 seasons."

The show was created by Shonda Rhimes who continued to write for the series until 2015.

With Pompeo's departure, the show will only have two original cast members remaining, Chandra Wilson who plays the role of Miranda Bailey and James Pickens Jr. who is Richard Webber.

Pompeo added that she'll "definitely be back to visit."
