Federal Election officially underway

Prime Minister Mark Carney visited Governor General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall this afternoon to request that Parliament be dissolved setting off one of the most important federal elections in Canadian history.


Canadians will head to the polls on April 28. The five-week campaign is the shortest election permitted under Canadian law.


Carney will make a visit to St. John's later today. With seven seats up for grabs in the province, it will make an important stop in the province.


Before the election was called, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre launched his campaign across the river from Parliament Hill. Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh are expected to launch their campaigns later today.
