Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter dies at 100

Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100.


The 39th president of the United States was a member of the Democratic Party.


Carter was born and raised in Plains, Georgia. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 and joined the U.S. Navy's submarine service.


Carter also served in the Georgia State Senate from 1967 to 1971 and as the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.


In 1982, Carter founded the Carter Center, a non-governmental and non-profit organization with the purpose of advancing human rights and alleviating human suffering.


He was also well known for his relationship with Habitat for Humanity.


Carter made the decision in February of 2023 to enter hospice care after being diagnosed with melanoma that metastisized to his brain and liver.
