G7 summit wraps up in Japan
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is wrapping up at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
It was a busy day for Trudeau who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The prime minister will also attend a working session with outreach countries and international organizations.
During the summit Zelenskyy shared accounts of the needs of Ukrainians and discussed longer-term challenges relating to reconstruction and economic recovery. G7 leaders committed to supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes.
Among other things, leaders discussed armed conflicts, climate change, food and energy insecurity, and the recent pandemic.
Canada will host the G7 in 2025.
The Group of Seven is an intergovernmental political forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
