Joan Marie Aylward to be installed as Lieutenant Governor

Joan Marie Aylward will be installed as the 15th Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador today.

The Lieutenant Governor acts as King Charles’ representative for the province in a constitutional role.

Aylward has spent many years in public service and a commitment to community engagement. She was also a nurse and a provincial Cabinet Minister – where she was Newfoundland and Labrador’s first female Minister of Health and Minister of Finance. Aylward has also been a community and union leader.
