Man dies in China after contracting Monkey B Virus
Chinese officials have confirmed that a man has died after he contracted an infectious disease known as the Monkey B virus.
Monkey B virus is very similar to HSV-1 and as such this neurotropic virus is not found in the blood. In the host, the virus exhibits pathogenesis similar to that of cold sores in humans.
This is the first documented human case in China.
The man worked as a veterinary surgeon in Beijing.
He had experienced nausea and vomiting followed by fever with neurological symptoms.
He died on May 27.
