Alex Ovechkin is one goal away from setting a record for the most goals in the NHL. In the game last night, he tied Wayne Gretzky.


The 39-year-old forward flew past Chicago Blackhawks goalie Spencer Knight on Friday for his 894th goal.


The Russian player, nicknamed "The Great 8" in reference to his jersey number and "Ovi", is widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time.


Ovechkin played his first game with the Capitals in the 2005–06 season opener on 5 October 2005.
