Overnight single-vehicle crash resulted in the closure of a section of Mayor Avenue in St. John's early Tuesday morning.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene near Calver Street shortly after 1:00 a.m. after reports indicated that a vehicle had collided with a utility pole.

When SJRFD firefighters arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had collided with the pole, sustaining significant damage. The impact was severe enough that the utility pole would need to be replaced.

To facilitate repairs, officers from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) closed Mayor Avenue between Calver Street and Howley Avenue Extension. At around 4:30 a.m., Newfoundland Power supervisors and RNC officers were still awaiting the arrival of crews with a new utility pole to begin the restoration process.
