Significant storm impacting the province #nlwx


A weather system will bring a messy mix of weather to Newfoundland and Labrador today.


Strong winds are expected from the northeast coast of Newfoundland from the Avalon to White Bay. Maximum gusts from 80 to 100 km/h are expected tonight to Sunday morning.


The Connaigre, Burin, and southern Avalon Peninsulas will see 30 to 50 mm, except locally 80 mm or more of rain through this evening.


A significant amount of freezing rain is expected over inland and higher terrain areas around the Burgeo Highway and Bay St. George and in Corner Brook and vicinity, and the higher terrain of Gros Morne. 5 to 10 mm of freezing rain is likely this afternoon through this evening.


Deer Lake - Humber Valley, Buchans and the interior, and Green Bay - White Bay will see snow followed by freezing rain. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected. Total freezing rain amounts could equal 5 to 10 mm.


The Great Northern Peninsula could see 20 to 30 cm of snow and wind gusts to 80 km/h.


In southeastern Labrador, snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 cm are expected. Additionally, wind gusts from 80 to 130 km/h are expected.
