Drivers in St. John’s using the PayByPhone app to pay for parking will soon notice a change in how time is calculated. Starting Wednesday, April 16, the city will introduce a minimum 15-minute increment for all transactions made through the app.

Until now, users could pay for parking in one-minute intervals. However, the adjustment comes as a result of a revised payment structure from PayByPhone, the city's electronic payment service provider.

City officials say the new policy aims to reduce the transaction fees incurred by the municipality. It will also bring the app-based payment system in line with the existing 15-minute minimum required at physical pay stations in the same zones.
