Sunday Drive to Ferryland
Located on the southeastern Avalon Peninsula between Calvert and Aquaforte is Ferryland.
According to the 2021 Statistics Canada census, its population is 371. From St. John's you head south for about an hour's drive through tiny communities rich in history.
Ferryland offers breathtaking ocean views and is home to the Colony of Avalon.
Visitors to the area can take in a show at the Summer Dinner Theatre, and visit the Ferryland Lighthouse, Ferryland Museum, and Holy Trinity Church.
The area was originally established as a station for migratory fishermen in the late 16th century but was also used by the French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Ferryland was attacked by the Dutch and later the French.
