Sunday Drive to Port Saunders


Port Saunders May 23, 2020.

When you get to Deer Lake heading either west or east you can instead take Route 430. As you drive past some of the most beautiful scenery the province has to offer you'll arrive at a left turn about two and a half hours later.


Port Saunders located on the Great Northern Peninsula serves as a service district for the area, it features government services, a hospital, a police department, and a school.


Regardless of what season you visit, you'll be greeted by views of nature you won't find anywhere else. Whether it's a warm summer day or stormy winter's day, Port Saunders has unmatched ocean views.


The town, like many in Newfoundland, is a fishing community. Many residents are avid outdoors people.


As of 2021, the community had a population of 678.


The town of Port Saunders is named after Admiral Saunders who was in command of one of three British warships that went there after returning from Battle Harbour, Labrador.
