Time running out for missing submersible off the coast of Newfoundland
As the search continues for the five people missing on the submersible that was headed to the wreck of the RMC Titanc, a Canadian Aircraft P3 Aurora has arrived on the scene to conduct sonar searches.
At this time the R/V Polar Prince and R/V Deep Energy are continuing their surface searches.
The United States Coast Guard says that as of this morning, the total search area completed is 10,000 SQ miles. Overnight searches showed no sign of the missing submarine.
The 21-foot submarine, name Titan, only has about 70 hours of oxygen remaining. It lost contact on Sunday.
In a statement, OceanGate said, "We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely.
Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families. We are deeply thankful for the extensive assistance we have received from several government agencies and deep sea companies in our efforts to reestablish contact with the submersible.
We are working toward the safe return of the crewmembers."
