Winter storm barrelling toward the Avalon Peninsula


On Tuesday the Avalon Peninsula will be hammered by the first significant snowfall of the season.


An area of low pressure will pass southeast of the Avalon Peninsula on Tuesday and will spread snow across the Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula through Clarenville and the Bonavista Peninsula.


The snow will begin on Tuesday morning and will taper off overnight.


Significant snowfall is expected on the Avalon Peninsula. Gusty winds are also expected which will cause reduced visibility and blowing snow.


Snowfall forecast:

  • St. John's 15-30 cm

  • Carbonear 10-15 cm

  • Trepassay 20-35 cm

  • Placentia 15-20 cm


Wind gust forecast:

  • St. John's 70 km/h

  • Carbonear 60 km/h

  • Trepassay 80 km/h

  • Placentia 70 km/h


On Tuesday there is the potential for travel disruptions and school closures.
