Winter Storm Pummels Labrador and Bring Strong Wind to Newfoundland #nlwx

Writer: Web WritersWeb Writers

The storm that we have been talking about over the past few days that tracked through southern Ontario and southern Quebec is still causing problems in this province.

In Newfoundland, there are some power outages this morning and strong winds are occurring across most of the Island. Some areas are also reporting light rain. The good news is that the wind will diminish from west to east later this morning and early afternoon.

In Labrador, it is quite a different story.

There are blizzard warnings, winter storm warnings, and special weather statements in effect. Areas under blizzard warnings could see another 40 to 50 centimetres combined with wind gusts to 100 km/h. Areas under a winter storm warning could see another 20 to 30 centimetres and winds gusting to 90 km/h.

Not surprisingly there are several school closures in Labrador this morning.
